How to Select the Best Summer Camp for Your Child? The Parents and Children Education Club just successfully held its 31st event at the Asian Cultural Center in Edison on the evening of Saturday, March 11, 2006. Nearly sixty people (children and adults) were present. As usual, the event was comprised of three parts: kids' talent show, seminar for parents - summer camp forum, kids EQ workshop - how to create practical arts. Here we would like to give many thanks to Dr. Bonnie Liao for her priceless advice on summer camps and Ms. Arati Nath for having conducted an excellent workshop for our children. Thank them both for taking time out of their very busy schedules to come to support the club. Our kids' talent show is a great opportunity for children to experiment and to display their talents in front of a group of people. It is a step-stone to a bigger stage. We encourage children not only to perform to their best but also to exhibit their finest manners possible. Thank you to all those children who performed and enjoyed the show.
Summer camp planning is what many parents are concerned about right now. Which one is the right one for your own child? How to choose the best type of camp for your child? So many questions are rolling in our minds. The club invited Dr. Bonnie Liao to address this topic. Bonnie introduced several types of camps: academic, sports, character building/EQ development/leadership training oriented, people-to-people for cultural exchanges, etc. When planning for summer camps/programs, Bonnie pointed out that we should begin with ending in mind, be proactive intead of following other people's steps blindly. Remember "first things first" and do not forget that our kids also need to "have fun" in the camp, after all summer is fun time. With great demand from the audience, Bonnie introduced her "YingHua in Beijing" camp. Her session was conducted in a very liverly manner and was well received. Our participating camp directors Dr. Xin Geng and Ms. Hua Liu presented their summer camp package (FCD summer camp). Thank them very much for their participation and support.
Our children's EQ workshop was conducted by the talented artist and film director, Ms. Arati Nath. Ms. Nath taught the children how to create posters, advertisements and other practical arts. The children had a wonderful time creating their own artistic works with Ms. Nath's guidance. Many thanks to Ms. Nath for the great workshop!
I would also like to thank the following people for their great help. Without their support, the event would not have been possible:
Ms. Cindy Yu invited Ms. Arati Nath for the childrenEQ workshop which was very successful. Ms. Maggie Zhang helped at the reigstration table to welcome members and non-members and processed on-spot registrations.
Ms. Grace Shen helped to compile the lists of registrants and performers. She also helped to host the kids' talent show.
Ms. Xiaoying Wen served as our photographer who took very professionally-looking pictures of the programs.
Mr. Dennis Wu helped with chair arrangement and final clean-up with several other people whose names I could not recall now.
Tiffany's husband made special trip to bring the tools for the EQ workshop when she herself could not come due to her allergies.
There are many other people who were helping. Please forgive me for not being able to name each one of you. Thank you all for a great team work. Our next event will take place on April 8. Mr. Randy Schafer, the director of masterfulkids.com, will be our speaker. Please stay tuned for further information.
